- Alexa is collecting and delivering stats about the traffic made, for the most part, by those who have an alexa bar. Thus it somehow measure the popularity of the site AMONG the subset of alexa-enabled users
- PR is aimed at defining credibility/ authority, ie relevance of a page as an answer to a question; in some cases this is related to traffic, in some other no
1 - If you want to get traffic data, Alexa is better than PR, but does not report traffic accurately (most notably, it usually under-represents traffic outside of North America).
2 - If you want to know which site has the best content, PR is usually better
If you want to know which site is better for quiche recipe, you would prefer some sites with high PR rather than some heavily trafficked site like porn or other!
However PR reflects some credibility, but usually relevant to some main subjects
Now if you have defined some precise area:
- define what are the most relevant keuwords people would use to search in this area
- search these keywords 1, 2 or 3 at a time, as suitable) with GG: you will get the sorted list of the pages (not sites!) thet GG finds the most relevant (beware that GG will by default just list the 2 topmost pages of any site); you might also do the same search in Yahoo to complet your picture
- these searches should tell you which pages sites are found the most relevant for your searches
- now use your own brain and finalize the selection!
