Why does Google allow Pissed Consumer to rank so high

Why does Google allow PissedConsumer.com to rank so highly? Clearly this is an extortion site. Once your in their sites their PissedConsumer review turns up on page 1 Google and the only way to deal with it is to pay PissedConsumer.com a monthly fee to manage your bad reviews. http://www.pissedconsumer.com/business-solutions.html This is in sane!

While doing some homework attempting to figure out how they get away with this I found this detailed summary on how PissedConsumer.com is scamming and spamming the search engines to get high ranking. Have look at this article here: http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/pissedconsumer-link-farm-dominating-google-serps

For those not tech savvy here is what they are doing in a nut shell:
  • Google ranks sites (page 1 verses page 2) based on the relevance of inbound links.
  • Pissed Consumer bought lots of other websites (RipOffReport is one of hundreds) and places links from RipOffReport to PissedConsumer
  • Google sees these links and thinks RipOff is relevant to a Pissed Off Consumer - so they give them ranking credit. (highly simplified, but you understand)
  • PissedConsumer then charges the business mentioned in their PissedConsumer report to help manage their poor reputation for a monthly fee. Think I'm kidding? Have a look for yourself: http://www.pissedconsumer.com/business-solutions.html

Think of the thousands of large companies paying PissedConsumer $250/month to "manage" their consumer comments? Can you say extortion?

Pissed Consumer = Web Extortion - it is that simple.

I think ever business in America should block Google on their firewall until they get their act together on this one.

My first major SEO project - any advice really appreciated

Hello,

I have dabbled with SEO in the past I think like a lot of people, but I am working towards the first site that I have completed that really relies on Organic traffic.

If people with more experience and knowledge than me could take a look and advise as to what may be missing from the site I have produced I would be extremely grateful.

The URL is cheap central heating .co.uk -  please remove the spaces.

I am on the verge of moving the client to change their domain name to cch leeds .co.uk as I am concerned about the projection of the word cheap in the URL, any thoughts ?

Thanks as always for any of your time.

The situation I'm currently dealing with is one of our brand uses a keyword domain name. The site was created by a different company and they set the main section of our site to fall under a path that uses that keyword again.

So the paths look like http://www.keyword.com/keyword/{uri-to-other-pages}

Then there are other pages that are like: keyword.com/{some other word}/keyword-{modifier}

I feel like they somehow had it in their head that the more times they could put that one keyword in the url path that it would somehow magically make the site rank better for that keyword.

I'm thinking that is just ridiculous but before I go through the trouble of changing the paths and setting up the redirects, how useful or pointless is doing that?

How to get more people to our website

Hello All,
I work for a start-up called Lumos Learning & we develop supplementary learning resources for children in elementary & middle school. Our target audience is more than a million people. We have been doing everything people advice small business to do, like SEO, SEM, Ads, Social Media Marketing, etc. & we have had some rewards. But it's still not enough. We are only getting about 500-600 visitors a day. We really want that to be somewhere around the 10000 mark. What else can we do to improve our visibility & increase our traffic. It would be really helpful if you guys can make a few suggestions. Please contact me if you need any further information.
Thanks,
Rakshith

well said Jay!

to add...  its basically .us domains were ignored in the algo long ago.... a us company used .com and that was it ,,,,, .com was American as fare as they cared..... sorta speak and the world went along so.  why is google.com the us search and google,ca Canada and google.uk united kingdom..... get it.... politics i guess..... anyway the .us domains and spending money to seo them is a waist.

thats were you need to learn from someone thats been there since the beginning.

The algorithm does take into account the extension type tied into geography. I think I best explain a little history about extensions, some things Micheal and myself had to go through.

About 5-7 years back, Google had a massive amount of trademark complaints against registered Companies that were using a .com extension but had a parasite company using the .net or .biz. etc. etc.

If the URL had the company trademarked name in it,  the parasite URL could be shut down due to trademark infringement. Google got caught in the middle of all this, yet had nothing to do with it. They moved quickly to diminish the value of almost every URL in the non .com form. Some just a little others a lot.

Google made other adjustments to URL's along the way too. The .US extension and the .US.COM sub-domain extension created many of these issues. Rest assured different extensions work better in different Geo locations.

Re: Pilestreatment.us is not show in Google search engine

Somewhat true from my knowledge...from what I have learned.  The country extensions just need to be hosted in that country.  It is an optimization technique for that geo location.  So .us isn't bad per se, it just optimizes better for queries in the US, if you have a US based business and the website is hosted in the US.  Same goes for .co.uk extensions, etc...

Best,
Jay Bale

Re: Two different domains: Duplicate content problem

I think in many cases everyone is right. It is about getting the duplicate content off.

In most cases a 301 is the best option when letting a site down to replace another. In issues such as duplicate content, parking the domain or killing all the content seems to work faster in concern to how long the algorithm will wait to re index the situation completely.

Either way will work just fine.

Best,
Jay Bale

In webmaster tools, why my site has 5000 indexed urls without www and 1200 with them? I use 301 redirect

Hello,

i am doing a new website, its been about 3 since Google starting indexing it. I use a 301 redirect so main domain is www.weedgrowshop.es
Maybe i made a mistake adding both domains in webmaster tools. When i check indexed url status i see that the weedgrowshop.es has much more url's than www.weedgrowshop.es
isn't this weird? Maybe Google needs more time to index my site correctly?
i think robots.txt is correct.
