Is there something different when using WordPress.

I am helping a friend who is using WordPress as the back end of their
website. Because he's not paying me, I just did some very simple SEO
work for him and make sure that he had the right keywords in the right
place and so on. The changes that I made were not major, however the
site took a nose dive in the ranking.

I have uses these same techniques on other sites and have gotten very
positive results. The only difference that I can see is the WordPress
software. Is there something going on that I do not know about this
software?
