robots.txt with a 301 redirect

I'm trying to figure out how to do something that might just be
impossible. Before I give up, I'll see if anyone here can possibly add
some insight.

I have two domains:
1) domainone.com which I don't want indexed by search engines
2) domaintwo.com which I do want indexed by search engines

Any content I have on domainone.com, I want to hide from search
engines, but then I have a 301 .htaccess redirect sending visitors to
domaintwo.com for any addresses that don't match content on
domainone.com

So for example, say I have a file called privatephoto.jpg that's at
http://domainone.com/privatephoto.jpg
The I have another file called information.html at http://domaintwo.com/information.html

I want to hide http://domainone.com/privatephoto.jpg from Google, BUT
I want Google to be able to see http://domainone.com/information.html
(which is a 301 redirect)

Is this completely impossible?

Why won't Google Penalize sites that have duplicate content

Hi SEOGroup1

A competitor's site that was started in Oct 08 has really good
listings for competitive phrases. I looked them up on Copyscape.com
because their layout/content was gimmicky looking. Copyscape showed
duplicate or very closely matching content to many other sites. Why
would Google let them climb so high so fast without penalty? Is it
because each one has a different city target (i.e. Orlando boot camp,
Chicago boot camp)? The rest of the content is very close in matching.
But showing up #2 for Orlando boot camp in less than 7 months makes me
think that Google isn't punishing for duplicate content or the names
of the cities is just enough to keep it from being seen as duplicate.

The site is notyouraveragebootcamp.com

Thank you for any comments on this scene.

K

SEO Site Map

Hi,

I am using expression web and using the pre-built interactive image
buttons for a navigation bar at the top of the page. I am also
planning on using a text link navigation at the bottom of the page,
including a site map.

I understand that search engine crawlers don't see image links, and
the crawlers have a tendency to not crawl all the way to the bottom of
the page.

1. My first question is, would having a single text site map link
just under the navigation bar alleviate this potential problem of the
crawlers not getting to the bottom of the page to see the text links,
and thus not being able to index every page of my website?

My other problem is, I am concerned that a single link to a site map
just under my navigation bar will look out of place and detract from
the look of my design. I have also read about a technique called
hidden text used to create a high keyword density that disguises
keywords or links by making them the same color as the page
background, however the crawlers recognize this keyword stuffing
practice and will penalize the page rank.

2. My second question is, would using this hidden text keyword
stuffing technique to create a single invisible site map link under my
navigation bar be a problem in the same way as if I was attempting to
create a high keyword density?

I don't see that using this method for a different objective as being
a problem with crawlers and page ranking.

I would appreciate any comments on this concept or solution.

Pat

Re: NEw template upload Is this wrong for my old one???????????

<<a new template with same content >>
this would have no real impact, since the text of the conent would be the same

BUT
- if you make changes to navigation or texte display techniques, eg
links known by fals or javascript only, or text known by flash or
javascript only, the you are going to dive down in your rankings,
since that would in fact remove indexed content
- same if the new template used frames

Re: hide link; should still be found by Google indexer?

1 - As far as search engines are concerned, this is cloacking and hiding your links. If you just have a few on your site, presumably they would assume that they are legitimate, maybe not.
But if you are using this on a large scale, then certainly you have a high risk to get penalized sooner or later, because this is clearly NOT meant to help your human visitors.

2 - In my opinion, the best way to achieve your goal is to use a css style and to use it, eg

extlink, a.extlink {visibility: hidden}
....

<a class='extlink' href="http://www.mywebsite.net">This is a link</a>

RE: hide link; should still be found by Google indexer?

Hi

Give the "a" tag a class or id then position it off the page, using CSS.
Even though you cannot see it on the page, Google will.

Hi,

To hide your link from spider use as follows:

<a href="http://www.mywebsite.net" rel="nofollow">This is a link</a>

It will work fine.

exactly, no-follow links to outside URLS, because sometimes search engines may consider you are selling links on your site.

just no-follow to outgoing outside URLs.

I have recently changed my site, so that all my pages apart from index
only use follow links to index.html (all other links are nofollow).
This is in order to try and raise my PR. Have I done the right thing

as none of them require my links for SEO purposes anyway.
Thank you for any help you can offer

How tell Google to index an iframe?

Hi,

we allow users to embed content from our service in their site with an
iframe. I guess that Google doesn't crawl iframes and thus never goes
to our site, right?

Or how does the Google indexer treat iframes?

Is there a way that the Google indexer thinks this site links somehow
to us if it is using our iframe? We want as many people as possible
link to us and we want the Google search engine to know about it.

Thanks,
jago

Re: Google Banned Site

it's not banned..

try internal link building more, linkage is very important and u can search in google as

site:yourdomain.com

sometimes it's called sandbox effect, and it will soon be appearing, if ur site is relatively new, wait for up to 6 weeks, once it's properly indexed, ur site will get indexed every time u update.

using sitemap is great.

try using google webmaster tools and authenticate ur site too

hope that helps

Re: Microsite

Given the limited number of keywords that a site can really benefit from, it allows you to differentiate different product lines with their own keywords, thus raising their visibility within the genre. You might also be able to benefit from lower PPC rates, depending on the agreements you have in place.

Re: gained ranking on forst page but still queries are missing

Hi

Trafic generated by kewords comes from the combination of 2 factors:
a - general population searching for these keywords
b - your rank in the answer to these keywords.

You are fine on b/
But what is the general traffic on a/ ?
If you've got 50% of low traffic, that might be far behind 1% of a high traffic...

Re: nofollow links

Well yes, that's right. Nofollow is to be used only for outgoing links when done with the purpose of curbing the flow of link juice.

Re: nofollow links

Your PR doesn't rise or drop by employing or not employing nofollow. What matters is the link juice being parted with or preserved; while the actual PR figure remains the same.
You may use nofollow esp for blog comments/commentators, outbound links when you have a reason to fear parting with your link juice (i.e., you have too many outbound links), you are not certain about the authority or credibility of the site you are linking to etc.

I will suggest you to read my blog on Nofollow where I've actually put down the recommendations on using nofollow tag, as to when, where and why. I hope that helps.

Re: Do spiders crawl links inside of CDATA?

Yes, the JavaScript is going to modify the display of the content. It
is only modifying the look of it, not the actual content. Using CDATA
in certain places makes the parsing less error-prone.

Re: Do spiders crawl links inside of CDATA?

OK, I understand better now.

Are you going to use javascript in the page to do this?

2009/5/6 Matt <matt@fhtml.org>

Hi Bernard,

I want the links to be visible to Google. I am making an app that
reads HTML files and it requires that some things are in a CDATA tag.
I would love it if the links in the CDATA tag were picked up by Google
so I wouldn't have to duplicate them - it would make my workflow much
simpler.

Thanks for you help!
Matt

Re: Alt content and violation of google rules

Not sure if you would violate any GG rule and so get penalized.

What is sure is that you are neglecting referencement rules and that most robots might simply not understand your site, thinking it is just made of a single page.

So consider that:
- having a single-page site is a VERY BAD IDEA
-- for human visitors: they cannot bookmark, they cannot refresh (as bad as with frames)
-- for robots: how do you expect them to understand when readingf a single page that it is a proxy for 20 pages?
- you canNOT consider "flash-only" navigation, because it hides the other pages. If you want to use a Flash navigation, DO COMPLEMENT IT with a "pure html" navigation ("javascript-only" would be as bad as flash-only)
- and sonce you will be creating one page per swf, each swf will have a good alt content.

Note that there is a swf handling javascript extesnion which allows you to
1 - load the page as pure html
2 - If javascript is enabled, display swf instead of the alt.
This is the option I would recommend to have at the same time the nice look of a flash and the basic navigation needed by visitors, whthere human or robots.

Hello!
My website is made of 1 main INDEX.SWF that calls into a container
the
other swf's (bio.swf, video.swf ecc).
I use SWFobject to add the alt content in the HTML file.

My question:
If I write the INDEX.HTML file in a way it will contain the alt
content of ALL the pages in the site (instead of writing a separate
HTML for every web page) , will it be a violation of google rules?

Thanks!
Ori

Re: Cloaking and redirects

Redirection is not a problem, even if it is automatic/ invisible: just be sure that all visitors, whether human or robots, are treated the same.

If:
- the redirection makes sense, and is 301 based
- it is not outrageously used (eg do not not build 1000 pages each with its own different redirected to pages with different content)

When in doubt, consdier if a human would find this redirection a good or a bad thing..

2009/5/5 Impy <wynnemail@gmail.com>

From what I am reading about redirecting websites - that is a no no.
I'm not sure if this situation applies?

My website domain name is very undescriptive of the services it
offers. The services are pay freight bills, audit freight bills,
supply chain managment and so on. I purchased 3 domain names that
describe that and just have them forward to my original website
through the domain manager offered with the purchase of the domains.

There is no hosting of repeated content (pages) - is this the same
thing as cloaking/redirecting?

Thanks

Re: Robots.txt vs JS

Robots.txt abd javascript are two very different issues:
1 - robots.txt are used by robots, more precisely by "spiders" for finding which url/pages should be visited (eg, thru a sitemap) or not (eg: thru a disallow), although this is to be seen not as a final forbide but as a recommendation ("please be polite enough not to visit")
2 - the URLs found by the spider are then visited by the "indexers" which READ the content (they do not RUN it) and index it

Therefore if any javascript in "included" in an html page, it is loaded, since this is part of the reading (but it is not run, since robots are javascript-disabled).

They are read as a part of an html file, but not read as stand-alone (javascript) files, which might be "disallowed" by robots.txt. As far as the indexers are concerned, they are just reading "html" source code, not any other programming language...

2009/5/13 Impy <wynnemail@gmail.com>

Well, I think the key to understanding why I am correlating them is
because I thought that is how they worked. :-).  I take it I have more
reading to do - to understand what a robot does. I thought the robot
was the gatherer of the analytics. Apparently not.

Re: Do spiders crawl links inside of CDATA?

Matt

Re: Social Media Optimization

hey,

I think u r right, to get top ranking in enough time we should follo only Social Media.....

2009/5/1 pauljustina@gmail.com <pauljustina@gmail.com>

hey folks,

To get quick ranking and traffic is it feasible to focus on only
Social media marketing tactics to isolate entire seo process. Our site
domain is aged and Google crawled many times to site. Now we wish to
achieve top ranking by users search query. So Social media is the
legitimate way to get Google ranking in enough time for our site.
