To many people jumping into SEO?

Everywhere I look on the Net everybody and his dog seems to be jumping
on the SEO wagon. There is no Certification unless you sign up for the
course at SEMPO http://www.sempoinstitute.com/ which is expensive.
CraigsList where I live is seeing cost cutting on all the
advertisements, some people even offering to do it for free.

So the question is can you make a living in SEO,like locally where one
lives?

What is the future of making a living in SEO long term?

Where does the raise of Social Networks fit into it all.?Twitter,
Facebook etc
